The Alphabet Game
This is the master list for the Alphabet Game, a self-challenge in which I set out to write a piece of fan fiction corresponding to every letter of the alphabet. Most of these were written during Blogathon 2009, but a few are based upon requests from sponsors in the immediate aftermath of same. Finals!spam.
This paper is moving v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y, my perfectionism dueling with a fervent desire to JUST HAVE THE DAMN THING DONE ALREADY. At this point, considering the slowness, I wouldn't mind some slight turbulence. Could do without the explosions though. And I have two more exams this week. In other news...
Thank you to sandoz_iscariot for the LJ snowflake cookie! I am not going to fill out the Year-End Writing Survey until, you know, it's actually the end of the year. It's unlikely, but not impossible, that I'll write something between now and then, and I want to wait until I have all the data in. | | Monday, December 7th, 2009 | | 12:21 pm |
"I am The Waffler!"
Unfortunately, I have no Griddle of Justice. Or Truth Syrup, lowfat or otherwise. Not dead, just hurtling toward finals and waffling over the future. To mix movie references, we may experience some slight turbulence and then explode. And I miss having the time and the brain to write. Also, the rest of the Fangirl Horde and I are deeply unwell people. That is all. | | Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 | | 3:30 pm |

Iz Bird Day.
I am thankful for many, many, many things, including but not limited to... ...my supportive, creative, crazy family. ...my equally supportive, creative, crazy friends. I am so lucky and honored to have you all in my life. ...my fandoms (or whatever the plural of fandom actually is. I don't think you're supposed to ask. *g*) and the people I've met there, both real and fictional. ...the world and characters of Recycled Notes, come what may. ...Craft Nights. ...kitties. ...libraries. ...good food. Nom! ...LARP in general! Specifically, I am grateful to the members of the Boston LARP community for writing and/or running amazing games, and/or turning in delightful performances, and/or taking multiple chances on an insecure and sometimes fatally self-conscious player. ...Jim C. Hines, Sarah Waters, Lionel Shriver, and all of the other authors I've discovered over the past year. (And the ones I've discovered in previous years.) ...Blogathon! ...storytelling. ...the professors at both Bennington and URI who have challenged, inspired, and encouraged me. ...the fact that I am almost done with my undergraduate career. w00t! --- Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate, Happy Thursday to everyone else, and much love to all! | | Monday, November 16th, 2009 | | 10:12 pm |

Meme from contradictacat Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile."
• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity • Update your journal with the answers to the questions • Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.1. What (generally seen) superpower would you most like to have?Teleportation! Incredibly useful both in and out of a crisis. 2. You're in a room with 5 items and no way out. What are they?(I'm assuming that I can't actually teleport, and the room in question doesn't have a wireless/cell phone signal, either.) 1. Notebook and... 2. Pen. Because I go batshit if I can't write, and I want to at least be able to leave messages for people if I don't make it out alive. 3. Explosives. Because I at least want to make the effort, and if they kill me too, at least it'll be quick. 4. Water, because death by dehydration is - I'd imagine - unfun. 5. Some kind of weapon, in case the explosives don't kill me quickly. 3. What superhero would you most want to have a conversation with?Ooh, good question! Probably Kitty Pryde or Wendy Watson (from The Middleman), because I think (or, at least, I like to think) I'd get along well with both of them. Although I've been faskinated by Charles Xavier for too long to not at least consider him... 4. If you could be a sidekick to any one comic book character, what would it be?Lucien from The Sandman. I doubt I'd be much use in a fight against the bad guys, and wouldn't want to be the kind of sidekick who always has to get rescued. I'm fond of Lucien, I love books, and I work in a library in real life. Helping out in the Library of Dream would be something close to paradise. 5. Where are your pants?I'm wearing my favorite pants at the moment: black corduroy jeans that I rescued from the curb a year or so back. But I have several other pairs in my closet and laundry. | | Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 | | 3:44 pm |
It's always in the last place you look.
Oh, there's that LARP fear. Both about the games in two weeks for which I'm already signed up (well, one of them, really) and about Intercon, to which I need to decide whether I'm actually going. Lots of great games, and I will likely be out of school by then, so that takes care of that concern. And my friends are going, but - STRANGE BUT TRUE - I did not spontaneously combust the last time they spent a weekend LARPing without me. Mrrrr. *goes to class* | | Sunday, November 1st, 2009 | | 9:50 pm |
Utena ficlet!
I should have posted this yesterday, as a story that features both a witch and a devil would have been appropriate for the holiday. In any case, I hope that everyone had a good Halloween. "Stargazing." Revolutionary Girl Utena (pre-series), 355 words. Anthy, Akio, Ruka, with innuendo every which way. ( *** ) | | Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 | | 3:19 pm |
Awesome writing meme.
Seen most recently on speaky_bean's journal. 10 15 WORDS OR LESS meme- You post a pairing. - Any character(s) you want from fandoms in which you know I've written. (OCs and suchlike also welcome.) - I write 10 different categories. - Each in 10 words 15 words or less. - Post as many pairings as you want. - Angst: - AU: - Crack!fic: - Crossover: - First Time: - Fluff: - Humor: - Hurt/Comfort: - Smut: - UST: I've done 15-word fics before. They are possible but not as easy as they look. And addictive as hell. I shall try to answer these within the next day or so, though I am having a particularly busy week. | | Saturday, October 24th, 2009 | | 10:57 pm |

Various and Sundry: The New Dynamic Duo
- So, a week ago, I played in the excellent LARP "Martha Stewart's Guide to International Summoning (and Basting a Turkey)." I loved the premise (a meet-and-greet for humans hoping to make contracts with demons and vice versa), and we had a terrific and wonderfully varied cast. I played Evangeline Vilford, orphan and former victim of high-school bullying, who blossomed with the help of a "therapist demon" named Valefar. ( spoilers! )- Said LARP experience was mercifully free of my usual fear on the way in and most of the second-guessing that I usually do on the way out. Actually, I feel more silly and awkward about some of the things I said after the game than during. - I had a midterm earlier this week, which was why I did not post on the game right away. I have another next week, and a paper due the week after. We hateses it, precious. I mean, we wants to do well, but we still hateses it. - In writing news, I am not going to participate in NaNoWriMo, because, contrary to popular belief, I am not insane. The idea did appeal to me for a little while, mostly because it would allow the opportunity to throw myself into a creative project that is not Recycled. For that reason, I still want to set up some kind of (much) more modest writing schedule, and possibly actually finish the Big Damn Crossover Project. Yes, I'm shocked, too. | | Thursday, October 15th, 2009 | | 7:24 pm |
Nostalgic post is nostalgic.
Just checking: Did anybody else watch this when it was on Nickelodeon in the 1990s? 'Cause I've just rediscovered it thanks to The Magic Of The Interwebs. Was there ever any doubt as to how cheesetastic this was? Do you see me caring? Teenagers with psychic powers! Mad scientists! THE NEXT STAGE OF HUMAN EVOLUTION, GUYS. (Yes, I know that X-Men had been going on for a good 30 years, but I knew about this first.) (Yes, I realize that I have several better things to do. *goes to do them*) (Yes, I'll be watching more. Nyah.) | | Wednesday, October 7th, 2009 | | 7:33 am |

Mercifully brief whinebitchmoan.
Battling senioritis and facing Semester of Epic Meh. Have first short paper due Thursday which have not started. Do not regret time spent with crazy!RP over the weekend, but as per usual am far too easily distracted by daydreaming about same. Meh. Also, if you are reading this: happy birthday to chiarahaswings! | | Monday, September 21st, 2009 | | 3:48 pm |
Meme of LURVE.
Copied and pasted from a comment to shadesong's entry. I love my parents and my sisters. I love my friends, past and present. I love my fangirl horde, whether we're watching anime, giggling on the couch, weathering each other's emo, cheering each other's successes, cooking or playing with beads or ... I love our characters - hang-ups, traumas, limitations, redemption arcs, and all. I love good coffee and fruit and chocolate. I love cats. And honorary cats. I love good fantasy and science fiction; smart, engaging books and the occasional fluffy reading. In equal measure. I love libraries. I love funky tights and hats. I love fan fiction and fandom meta and character-crushes and squee. I love hugs and puppy-piles and skritches, and falling asleep on people's shoulders. I love fall in New England: crisp air, blue skies, turning leaves, spectacular sunsets, cozy hooded sweatshirts. I love outspoken people, kind and helpful people, courage and creativity of all stripes and polka dots. I love storytelling in all its forms. I love the power of words and images to persuade and encourage and disturb and, yes, revolutionize the world. (Your turn.) | | 7:50 am |
Meme of amends.
I am probably the Worst Jew Evar, but I do sort of like this little tradition. As some of you may know, the time between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is a time for making amends. If I have hurt you, I apologize. If I know I have hurt you, I will try to contact you, but I may not know. Please, if I have hurt you tell me, and if you can, forgive me.
Also, if you have hurt me or if we have quarreled, know that I am trying hard to forgive you as well right now, and this might be the time to mend burnt bridges. This includes - but is not limited to - people involved in the LARPs I've ducked; people who have approached me with friendship or more and whom I ignored or led on or tossed aside; existing friendships that I've let fall by the wayside; etc, etc. Comments are screened like a screened thing. |
